Privacy, in plain language.

Weather Father is a free, non-commercial weather website. You can use it without creating an account.

Your places and preferences

Your saved places, last successfully loaded location, units and optimist/pessimist choice are saved in this browser. They are not shared with other visitors or synchronised between devices. Your browser may also cache recent forecasts to reduce repeat requests. Clearing this website’s browser storage removes them.

Looking up the weather

When you search for a town, the search text is sent to Open-Meteo’s location search. Forecast requests normally use our server. If its shared connection is unavailable, your browser can request the same public data directly from Open-Meteo, which receives your IP address and selected coordinates. Your selected coordinates and time zone are sent to weather services to retrieve the forecast. “Use my location” asks your browser for permission first. Forecast coordinates are rounded to three decimal places, approximately 100 metres.

Our server temporarily caches forecasts by location so people viewing the same area can reuse them. It does not store a public list of visitors or their saved places. It also keeps aggregate request counts to stay within the free providers’ limits. Forecast cache entries are removed after they have been expired for two days, when another weather request runs.

Other services

Forecasts and environmental data come from Open-Meteo; the separate comparison uses BBC Weather. The embedded radar loads directly from WeatherScope, which receives your IP address and the map location. These services and the website’s hosting provider may process connection information such as IP addresses and request logs under their own policies.

Weather Father does not add advertising or analytics trackers. Essential browser storage is used for the preferences you choose. You can use town search instead of sharing your device location.
